This weekend we play Shalloe Pearse in the McCardle cup play off on Sunday at 12.30pm in Greenford.

Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday evening in Highgate Wood School, N8 8RN at 7:20pm, for more information please contact Paul Maher 07551 992 977. We can arrange transport from several areas. With four weeks to go until the Championship gets underway it is important that all players make both training sessions each week.

The draw for the Junior Championship took place last Monday, We where drawn in a group with St Anthony’s, Tir Chonaill Gaels and Brighton and Crawley Gaels.

Match report: Eire Og 2-5 v 3-7 Moindearg

We took on Moindearg last Saturday in a Divisions 3 league game out in Greenford. We where forced to make several changes to the team from the previous week due to injuries and lads been unavailable.

The first half was a close contest with both teams getting on the score sheet to cancel each other out, just before half time Moindearg got a few of unanswered scores and took a couple of points lead going into half time.

The second half was much like the first and the game was close until the final ten minutes when Moindearg got a couple of goals to open up a comfortable lead.

The final score was 2-5 to 3-7 in favour of Moindearg. Well done to Moindearg on winning the game.

Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday evening in Highgate Wood School, N8 8RN at 7:20pm, for more information please contact Paul Maher 07551 992 977. We can arrange transport from several areas.

We have no fixture this weekend as there is a lot of lads unavailable.

We have four tickets available for the monthly London County Board draw, if anyone is interested in taking one please let Nigel know, it is £10 a month.

Match report: Eire Og 1-6 v 0-13 Garryowen

Yesterday we made our first trip of the season to Greenford to play Garryowen in a Division 3 league game. With 17 of the panel unavailable we were tight for numbers but this was a great opportunity for some of the lads who have not had much game time in the previous games to make there point to Paul and Paddy.

The game got underway on time with a light breeze blowing across the pitch, we had a couple of early chances and missed the target. Garryowen made us pay for our missed chances and got a couple of uncontested points. Only for Keith Doherty in goal we would have been even further behind, Keith pulled off two great saves to keep us in the game.

Gerry Carthy and Dermot Reynolds who where our corner backs for the day, putting a good solid shift in with Nigel Drew also getting the better of his man. We where working the ball well up the filed with Kieran Lyons and Diarmaid Cadhain getting space to push on when they got the ball, Brian “Digger” was consistent as ever even though he picked up knock in training on Thursday. Big Damo and Tommy McGovern where in midfield and the partnership was working well with some slick moves which allowed us to move the ball into the forwards who took their scores when given the opportunity. Kieran “Rasher” Bacon was making his first appearance after becoming an internet sensation …..

We went in at half time drawing 0-4 each.

We made one change at half time with our team manager Paul Maher making his first appearance of the season replacing Rasher. The breeze had picked up and was against us in the second half, this allowed Garryowen to take a coupe of long range scores and open up a three point lead. A well worked ball up the field involving John Bradley, Dairmaid and Johnny Costello ended with Dave Moran who slotted the ball into the net to level the score.

We where on top and had a handful of chances to open up a lead but we hit six wide balls in a row. This was to be our downfall and Garryown upped their game and opened up a four point lead. Louie Doherty made way for John Timbs with 15 minutes to go. Sean Allen and Johnny Costello had another solid performance with them both getting on the score sheet. Super sub Connie Mc Carthy was introduced into the game late on to see if he could get the wonder goal we needed but this never materialised.

The game ended with a four point defeat 1-6 to 0-13, with 17 lads missing this shows how much the club has come on this season, with a quality panel it is important that all players attend training with competition for places been at a premium.

Last Saturday we held our annual BBQ. Thanks to Johnny and Damian for hosting the event on their roof top garden in Bow. There is speculation that the next social event will be the “12 beer gardens of summer”. We will have more information in the coming weeks.

We wish Richie a speedy recovery from the injury his sustained to his arm a few weeks ago. Little did Richie know that he had fractured a bone in his arm and played another two games while been injured. Those lads in Laois are as hard as nails!

Below are the provisional dates for the 2013 Championship. If you are going to be away for any of the dates please let Paul or Patrick know.

Well done to the players and management on their win over Brighton & Crawley Gaels on Saturday.

Training continues on Tuesday evening in Highgate Wood School, N8 8RN at 7:20pm, for more information please contact Paul Maher 07551 992 977. We can arrange transport from several areas.

There is no game this weekend with it been a bank holiday.

We are holding a BBQ on Saturday, Please contact Johnny or Damian for more information.

Division 3 league: Eire Og (1-17) v (2-6) Brighton & Crawley Gaels

Last Saturday we made our fifth visit of the season to Goodmayes to play Brighton and Crawley Gaels in the league. We had 25 lads available for selection. It was good to have James Kilroy and Darren Carroll available, both returned after long term injuries.

This was a game we where up for after last weeks win. We made a couple of changes with Keith Doherty, Liam Dunne and Tim Kelly, replacing Brian “Digger” Digney, Dave Moran and Paul Keohe.

The game got underway and we where quick off the mark taking our chance, we built up a lead of five points, Johnny O Connor was having a field day and took four scores in a row. Brighton make several good moves and got two important scores to reduce our lead, A good ball from JOC to Steven Perry seen him in on goal, the keeper made a good save but Conor “Nible” Nilan followed up and slotted the ball into the onion sack. We came in at half time 1-10 to 0-2.

We where slow out of the blocks in the second half and conceded two goals in two minutes to allow Brighton back into the game. The lads gathered their composure and got back into the game, Sean Allen was having his best game of the season with some good moves and solid tackles. Donal Flynn came on for Tim Kelly early in the second half to freshen up the half forwards. Liam Dunne made a good run from the full backs only to be taken out by an imaginary sniper. He tripped himself up!

We continued to push forward and got our reward with another couple of points to build up a five point lead with ten minutes to go. Dermot Reynolds, Connie McCarthy, Fergal Dolan and Gerry Cathy came on to get some game time and played well. A nicely taken free from Johnny Costello ensured we ran out comprehensive winners.

Best of look to Brighton for the rest of the season and a hard fought game.

Well done to all involved. Final score 1-17 to 2-6.

It got over 5000 views in the first day of been uploaded to YouTube.

We’ve all seen some bad misses on the GAA pitch, but this effort from across the pond in London will take some beating.

The GAA scene is thriving in England with the growing numbers emigrating and while the standard is getting higher and higher, there is still room for the odd shocking miss. Step forward Kieran “Rasher” Bacon.

Eire Og took on Moindearg last Sunday in the McCardle Cup and substitute Rasher was presented with a great chance to grab the headlines and become a super-sub.

With the ball bobbing around in front of goals, Rasher showed his attacking streak by picking up on the loose ball and letting fly from close range with the goal at his mercy.

Unfortunately for Rasher, and to the delight of those watching and filming, his thunderous shot cannoned off the crossbar and the opportunity was spurned.

We’re reliably told that the dodgy choice of music was to drown out some choice comments after the near miss.

Well done to the players and management yesterday on a comprehensive win over Moindearg in the third round of the McArdle cup. We ran out 6-11 (29) to 1-2 (5). The large winning margin may yet see us into the semi-final of the cup.

Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday evening in HighgateWoodSchool at 7:20pm. Contact Paul Maher 07551 992977 for more information. New players welcome.

This Saturday we will play newly formed Brighton and Crawley Gaels in the league. The game will take place in Goodmayes at 3:30pmon Saturday.

Match Report: Eire Og v Moindearg – McCardle Cup R3

Last Sunday we where playing in Goodmayes for the fourth time this season. We had our biggest turnout of the year with 25 players available for selection. The lads took to the pitch to warm up while Paul and Paddy discussed team selection.

As throw in time came close there was no sign of Moindearg, thankfully after a short delay the Moindearg lads arrived out of nowhere and the game was on.

We where quick out of the blocks and where up a couple scores after six minutes (1-1). Moindearg where stunned that we had come out of the blocks so quick and could not keep up with our play. Some slick moves from Ste Perry, Big Damo, Kieran Lyons and Johnny O Connor ensured the forwards received plenty of possession and took their scores.

We went in at half time 3-6 to 0-1 up. The message from Paul and Paddy was that the game was not won and to ensure we did not take our foot off the peddle.

The second half got underway with the wind in our favour, this was to be our advantage when JOC played a ball in from 50 yards to loop over the keeper into the new. Conor “Nimble” Nilan was having a field day and getting lots of space and had three goals to his name.

It could have been a day for Nigel, Paul, Niall and Dave to have brought their deck chairs to the game. Dairmaid Cadhain, Brian “Digger” Digney and Kieran Lyons were on form in the half backs ensuring that Monidearg did not breach our defence.

Paul Keohe, Sean Allen and Steven Perry where putting a solid shift in up in the half forwards. John Tierney was in at full forward and made his first appearance for the club.

As the game went on we made several changes, Richie “Jazz Hands” Bradley, Dermot Reynolds, Kieran “Rasher” Bacon and Tim Kelly where introduced to the game.

A good move down the field ensured the ball fell to Rasher Bacon who had the goal in sight but rather than slot it home he managed to hit the crossbar.

A special mention must go to Conor Nilan who got a hat trick of goals.

Overall this was a good day for the club, we had our largest panel of the season, our largest winning margin and we have the possibility of qualifying for the semi final of the cup.

The final score was Eire Og 6-11 to 1-2 Moindearg

There is plenty of work to be done and it’s essential that all players attend training on Tuesday and Thursday.

Congratulations to Keith Doherty and his partner on the birth of their daughter last Saturday.

Training continues on Tuesday evening in HighgateWoodSchool at 7:20pm. Contact Paul Maher for more information. New players welcome.

This Sunday we will play Moindearg in the McArdle cup second in Goodmayes at 1:30pm

The clubs annual BBQ has been pencilled in for Saturday 25th May and the following day the team will have a few pints out in Ruislip when London take on Sligo in the Connaught championship.

The club is looking into placing an order of mechanise, polo’s, hoodies and team jerseys. Any members that would like to place an order please contact Nigel. Any member that has paid their membership is entitled to a club bag. You can pick these up at training from Patrick.

The committee met last week and the proposal to have our first annual dinner later this year was agreed, a date has yet to be set but November is the month we will possibly choose. More details to follow from the social committee in due course.

The London Irish Centre is running a fundraising event on Friday 23rd May. Are you up for a great night of quality entertainment in Camden on May 23rd? Join MC Ray D’Arcy, Mitch Winehouse and his Big Band, Mick Flannery, Wallis Bird, and many more special guests for The Big Night Out. With fine food, live music, and a range of stunning auction prizes the Big Night Out will be an event to remember, all in aid of two great causes; LauraLynn Ireland’s Children’s Hospice and the London Irish Centre charity. The night is proudly supported by the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

Anyone that is interested attending please let Nigel or any member of the committee know.
